Inspiring the next generation of change makers

Young ChangeMakers is a unique on-campus experience for highly motivated secondary school students

Previously the Young Scholars Program, Young ChangeMakers is a new and refreshed program launched in 2021. This 3-day experience is designed for Year 11 students with big ideas and ambitions, aimed to develop leadership, critical thinking and innovation skills. As a Young ChangeMaker, students will participate in activities that ignite a passion for innovation, ideas and creating change in the community and the wider world.

During this UQ experience, students will undertake an immersive group project to tackle global challenges from different perspectives. During this process, they will also develop valuable design thinking and communication skills.

Student Testimonials

“I absolutely loved my time at this camp! It showed me the importance of giving everything a go and putting yourself out there. Not only was I able to explore my future study opportunities and create a better understanding of university life, but I was also able to meet so many likeminded students who I can say are close friends of mine to this day.”

Tarryn Sorour (2019) Fairholme College, Toowoomba

"I very nearly didn't apply for the program, but it turned out to be one of the best experiences I have had to date. It gave me a great insight into what I could expect at UQ, and this motivated me to do the best I could in Grade 12. I left camp feeling confident about taking on the challenges of my final year of study and life at university."

Ben Roden-Cohen (2019) Marist College Ashgrove
